Belle-Rose

The narrative follows a rural fauconnier's family, tracing the eldest son's passage from childhood freedoms to adult responsibility and his growing attachment to a nearby young woman. Domestic scenes and village quarrels give way to passions, social ambitions, betrayals, violent confrontations and legal or diplomatic missions. Several characters seek refuge in a convent amid sieges, assaults and moral crises, while others undertake journeys that extend the action beyond the province. The plot interweaves love, sacrifice, renunciation and the resolution of tangled loyalties through a succession of dramatic episodes and introspective moments.
