The narrative then follows transit through the Suez Canal, mixing vivid descriptions of engineering and physical geography with on-deck lectures about Scripture, ancient Near Eastern kingdoms, Mount Sinai, and biographical and historical sketches of Muhammad and the rise of Islam.
