Armenian legends and festivals

The study opens with a physical and cultural description of the Armenian plateau and then collects and interprets traditional legends, ranging from ancient origin myths and historical tales to stories tied to the country's Christianization and local sacred places. It examines specific narratives associated with national heroes and saints, assesses their historical backgrounds, and considers the Armenian church's social role. The second part surveys seasonal and ritual festivals, contrasting pagan folk celebrations and Gregorian church observances, and detailing private rites such as baptism, betrothal, marriage, and funeral customs. Throughout, the author links myths and ceremonies to communal beliefs and social cohesion, offering interpretive conclusions.
