About This Book
A comic one-act farce centers on a father burdened with several unmarried daughters who receives a letter proposing for one named Fanny. Two other men, each named Smith, arrive in succession after receiving similarly worded letters and misinterpret them—one expecting to buy a mare called Fanny, the other arriving as an undertaker informed of a sudden death—leading to a series of misunderstandings and cross-purposes. The confusion is resolved when all discover the letters share the same handwriting and that they have been made the victims of an April prank.
