About This Book
The narrative follows a small family group centered on Uncle Donald, his relatives, and companions as they live on a remote settlement beyond the Rockies and undertake hunting and long journeys across prairie and river. Episodes alternate between domestic scenes and action: a frightened search for a missing boy, the threat of a grizzly, a prairie village attacked and burned, and hazardous canoe travel with rapids, portages, upset boats, and raids that force desperate races and rescues. The work combines frontier description, encounters with local Indigenous groups, and continuous adventure travel through rugged wilderness.
