A Daughter of Japan

Set in a tastefully blended English–Japanese household, the play centers on a young Japanese woman engaged to a British naval lieutenant and the crisis that follows when his commanding officer arrives to enforce duty. Through domestic, dialogue-driven scenes among Ometsu, Lieutenant Maitland, Lieut.-Commander Belson, and the anxious private Simpson, the action examines the clash between romantic attachment and military obligation, cultural misunderstandings, personal loyalty, and the sacrifices demanded when love and service collide.
